Bridge assessment: from modular counting to Einstein dynamics
Date: 24 October 2026 Rule: every arrow names its carrier, preserved structure, missing input and falsifier.
The lightning path
G0 Golay/code data
| Construction A: Construction A / orbifold data
G1 Leech lattice and lattice VOA
| Graded trace
G2 modular character or genus-two partition data
| MISSING: complete dynamical model
G3 Hamiltonian / transfer matrix / worldsheet action
| MISSING: target metric coupling or continuum metric
G4 covariant effective action W[g]
| Metric variation + Ward identity
G5 conserved spacetime stress tensor
| MISSING or imported: gravitational action
G6 Einstein-plus-corrections field equation
| compactification / scaling / signature / spectrum
G7 four-dimensional healthy low-energy theory
| detector map
G8 discriminating observable
The path is plausible because each arrow has a known analogue somewhere in mathematical physics. It is incomplete because no single construction in this corpus realizes all arrows on one carrier.

No-go and non-implication register
The absolute-value non-implication
Taking an absolute value produces a nonnegative plotted scalar, not a probability density. A probability needs a measure (d\mu) and finite normalization (N^{-1}\int |f|^2d\mu=1), plus an operational rule connecting events to projectors or outcomes. Near the cusp, (J\sim q^{-1}), so naive integration over a modular domain is also divergent without a prescription.
The Bloch non-implication
The modular parameter τ labels a torus complex structure. Crystal momentum (k) labels characters of a translation group in a physical lattice. They can be related only after a model supplies a map (k\mapsto\tau(k)) and a Hamiltonian whose eigenvalues define bands. Visual periodicity is not that map.
The stress-tensor non-implication
The two-dimensional worldsheet stress tensor (T(z)), which generates conformal transformations, is not the four-dimensional spacetime tensor (T{\mu\nu}(x)) that appears in EFE. Target-space stress follows from variation with respect to a target metric, or from target-space field equations; it is not obtained by relabelling (L0).
The dimension non-implication
The 24 dimensions of the Leech lattice are internal Euclidean lattice dimensions. Four-dimensional Lorentzian spacetime requires a separate construction. A bare (c=24) holomorphic theory naturally fits special two-dimensional CFT and AdS₃ discussions; it does not by itself have four macroscopic coordinates.
The shared-(Sp(4)) non-implication
The genus-two modular group changes a period-matrix basis. The corpus's real symplectic group transports positive response/Jordan data and is isomorphic to an AdS₄ spin group. Same Lie type is not same carrier, action or physical role. The bridge needs an intertwiner, not typography.
The partition-function non-implication
A partition function is a scalar summary. Different local theories can share substantial spectral data, and a spectrum need not determine operator products or locality. Gravity requires at least correlation functions, sewing/factorization data and coupling to background geometry.
Route ranking
| Rank | Route | Why it is nearest | Main cost | Honest label |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | worldsheet beta functions | known mechanism from 2D consistency to spacetime equations | building a complete 4D critical theory | strongest conceptual bridge, currently model-absent |
| 2 | 4D induced action | direct computable path from spectrum to curvature terms | imports 4D geometry and coupling | best near-term calculation |
| 3 | AdS₃ benchmark | Monster CFT is already dimensionally appropriate to a 2D boundary | does not reach 4D EFE | best falsification/consistency laboratory |
| 4 | emergent continuum | would most fully realize the “universe as computation” picture | must create locality, dimension, signature and spin-2 dynamics | deepest and least constrained |
| 5 | direct Cartan gauge gravity | joins the corpus's already-developed independent-connection route | lattice must derive a selector/action rather than echo the group | clearest corpus join, globally blocked on new input |
| 6 | thermodynamic/entanglement | state counting could in principle feed geometric entropy | needs local area law, causal diamonds, first law and normalization | conceptually apt, no current carrier map |
The ranking is by calculational nearness, not ontological importance.
Corpus-specific join points
- Pair-Gram port. Feed genus-two Leech pair data into the existing positive (H_2(\mathbb R)) carrier. Test a genuine physical response interpretation, not just positivity.
- Affine seam port. The orientation bit and theta shift already isolated in claims 1217, 1790 and 1793 can serve as boundary-condition or spin-structure data in a full partition function.
- Independent-connection port. If a lattice/CFT construction induces the adjoint one-form and compensator required by the gravity checkpoint, it supplies exactly the new input that the finite route lacks.
- Detector port. Modular spectral degeneracies can guide resonator/code designs even if spacetime emergence fails. This is the theoretical-engineering branch.
- Entropy port. A genus-two or defect construction may contain entanglement data, but it enters gravity only after a local-region map and area law are proved.
Terminal assessment
The current corpus licenses the statement:
A Leech/Monster modular subroutine can exactly organize discrete states, pair relations and graded degeneracies, and it touches the same symplectic geometry as the rank-two Jordan--Lie hinge. It does not yet generate four-dimensional dynamics, stress-energy or Einstein gravity.
It does not license:
The universe is the Leech lattice, the plotted absolute value is its probability density, or moonshine derives EFE.
